On July-10 through 14, TechYukon put six local youth through a boot strap training course on Drupal and web development. This marks TechYukon's first entry in an effort to provide Yukon youth with mentoring and skills development and summer job placement assistance--a vital getting them involved with our industry sector, and to give them the job experience and training assistance to make them the technology company founders or employees of tomorrow.
More details about the event are available here.
Thanks to TechYukon members Camilo Rivera of Apprendo and Marcos Castillo of Bizont for developing and delivering the mentoring content. Thanks to MakeIT Solutions for providing the free venue at their offices. Thanks to Yukon government's Department of Economic Development for the financial support. Thanks to Mark Burns and Geoff Harries of the Yukon government's ICT branch for sharing their e-government initiatives and future plans with the students. And thanks to the companies that let the students have some time off from their summer jobs to take part in what proved to be a really valuable learning experience.
