In this fireside chat, moderator Olivia Norton of Sanctuary AI will host conversations with Saadat Qadri about what AI is and how it can be used in the Yukon and Innisfil’s CFO Mike Melinyshyn who will share how a city of 40,000 was able to harness data and AI to build a city for its citizens.

Mike Melinyshyn

Mike Melinyshyn (MBA, MMAI, CPA, CMA) joined the team at the Town of Innisfil in early 2020 as CFO/Director of Corporate Services and Deputy Treasurer, and CFO for InnServices – the Town’s water/wastewater municipal service corporation. He has significant private sector experience in regional, national and international organizations.

Serving as Chief Financial Officer for the last fifteen years, he has expertise in streamlining operations to improve processes using lean concepts and developing comprehensive strategic plans to help organizations succeed. Mike has closely partnered with the community – chairing several economic development and industry boards.

He has worked with municipal councils to encourage businesses to expand or relocate into communities.  His partnership with various colleges and universities has helped businesses grow by adopting the latest advanced technologies into their business processes to create a competitive advantage. Mike has a passion for integrating Artificial Intelligence into business strategy and community development initiatives to provide better services to residents.

Saadat Qadri

Saadat is a co-Founder & Principal at Modern Data Sciences Inc. He is a software engineer turned data engineer, with 10+ years of experience in designing complex data infrastructure systems. His passion includes helping spread data science/engineering education.

Olivia Norton

Olivia Norton is a co-founder at Sanctuary AI, where she bridges the commercial and technology verticals through customer application development and product testing, as well as fostering collaborations with academic partners. Prior to founding Sanctuary, Olivia led the technical effort of the Artificial General Intelligence group at Kindred AI.

Her professional experience includes software consulting in the oil and gas industry, as well as research and development work in the field of biomedical imaging at the Institute for Biomechanics at ETH Zurich.

Passionate about creating and scaling impactful technology, Olivia lends her voice and expertise to a variety of organizations and groups in the Vancouver technology ecosystem.

Olivia holds a Master of Engineering in electrical and computer engineering from the University of British Columbia. She also holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering, specializing in biomedical engineering, from the University of Calgary. She is a 2018 BC Business 30 under 30 award recipient.
