Data Storytelling for Beginners

April 28, 2022 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

About this event

You know you have data…you have lots of excel sheets each with a lot of numbers…But, what is it telling you? And how do you use it to make decisions and show funders the value of your work?

How you communicate and make sense of your data matters. Knowing how to piece it together is key to making good decisions and getting your funders and partners as excited as you are about what you do.

In this workshop with Math Expert and Author Vanessa Vakharia, you’ll learn that data doesn’t have to be intimidating. You’ll walk away confident and comfortable in how to look at and share your data in a way that makes budgets, projections, and understanding impact easy. You’ll also walk away with key strategies to overcome math anxiety when faced with endless rows of numbers.

About the instructor

Known as the Lady Gaga of math education, Vanessa is the founder and director of The Math Guru, a super cool boutique math & science tutoring studio in Toronto and is regularly featured on Breakfast Television, The Toronto Star, CP24, The Globe and Mail, and CBC.

She is also the host of the Math Therapy podcast, author of the Math Hacks series for Scholastic, and lead singer/keytarist for rock band Goodnight, Sunrise.

Her #goals are to be Oprah-level-famous and to totally change math culture so that STEM is finally as cool as every single Taylor Swift song. She failed Grade 11 math twice, which was the best thing that ever happened to her.
